ABIGAIL YEATES ARCHITECT specialise in solving complex design problems, whether they arise from the site condition, its history, heritage assets or planning constraints.

Abigail started working as an Architectural assistant in 1998, she spent two years working at Design Engine Architects and six years at Heatherwick Studio. Here she earned a reputation for being a talented designer. She established AYA in 2012.

Abigail has always been fascinated by the reciprocal relationship between architecture and people. Seeing buildings as fluid environments that need us, as we need them.

Our understanding of buildings and environments is never static. The photo is an illusion, that moment is not real. Our experience is not static, our perspective is evolving, widening and narrowing. Buildings can make our experiences richer and careful design enables our buildings to evolve with us.

Abigail explored this reciprocal relationship whilst studying at The Bartlett, UCL, using film and her thesis to examine the performance of everyday life. She believes there is strong reciprocity between architecture and people that should be valued.
